We will take back Christmas from the corporations that have turned this celebration into an excuse to shop.

Our Goals
1. Shopping for "stuff" reduced.
2. Debt during the holidays reduced.
3. Generosity increased.
4. The Spirit of the season returned to a time for worship, not shopping.

Join us as we meet in our communities to tell others not to overspend and go into debt this Christmas Shopping Season.
Our slogans are:

-Taking on Debt is not a gift to anyone.

-You don't have to buy a gift to give a gift.

-Debt robs your ability to be generous.

-Debt does not lead to happiness.

BeatingDebt.org is asking volunteers to do one of four things.

1. Protest Personal Debt

Organize with your friends and family at anytime during the holidays. Be sure to protest your personal message against debt on public sidewalks. Make sure to get authorization from your local government.

2. Place Educational Signs

Post your message of protest on a sheet of paper and place them on street poles and community event boards during the holidays. You can get an example here & here.

3. Provide convincing knowledge

Prepare a blog that provides for your readers with some answers as to how to stay away from debt and ways to shop without having to go into debt this Christmas Shopping Season.

4. Give up some gifts for charity

Tell your friends and family that this Christmas you don't need any gifts. Tell them to use the money they were going to spend on you and give to their favorite charity.

Tell us how what you are doing during the holidays in your community by RSVPing and commenting below.

The “Debt Protest” should educate citizens on their Christmas shopping in order to convince them to stay away from personal debt.

Let us rise up and be an alternate voice to the corporations marketing to us to buy, buy, buy this Christmas season.

As we get closer to the end of the year, many people are planning to spend money on gifts that are expected by their family and friends. Unfortunately, statistics show that many of those people will spend more than they earn and have to use debt in order to provide the gifts that are expected during this celebration of Jesus’ birth.
As we get closer to the end of the year, many people are planning to spend money on gifts that are expected by their family and friends. Unfortunately, statistics show that many of those people will spend more than they earn and have to use debt in order to provide the gifts that are expected during this celebration of Jesus’ birth.

BeatingDebt.org has made a focused effort this season to convince people not to overspend during this holiday season. In the last two months, we’ve purchased and created three new websites to help spread the word about not using debt. We’ve also sponsored two anti-debt protests, showcased an anti-debt exhibit, and provided two classes on preparing for Christmas in an anti-consumerist fashion.

The purpose of this letter is to ask for your financial support during 2010. We have a lot of difficult work to do to convince more people to stay away from debt. Our mission is to provide educational advertisements, accountability group support, and online resources. All those aspects of our mission require money to place advertisements, to provide educational support, and to maintain a robust, resource-driven website.

I want to ask for your support during our “10 for 2010” pledge drive. I am asking that you pledge to donate a minimum of $10 more in 2010 than what you donated in 2009. With our combined pledges, we will be able to afford new educational ad placements, which will expand the reach of our messages of staying away from debt.

Will you join us in this effort to build a stronger “Anti-Debt, Anti-Consumerism, Pro-Christian, Pro-Sustainability” message within the marketplace?
We are going to review the movie: In Debt We Trust.

Join us as we learn about how the banks and credit card companies create an environment that enables them to hold on to power and keep us down.

Let us watch, learn, and discuss, so we can talk to others about staying away from debt.
To race well you, must have good council. There is no better coach for a tough race than Jesus Christ. BEATING DEBT will reduce your stress and increase freedom only temporarily if you don’t have the good coach guiding you. Make sure Jesus Christ is your coach for this race.
